It is increasingly difficult to fight chronic wound infections related to resistant pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. An innovative non-antibiotic strategy to counteract wound polymicrobial colonization could be represented by the combination of Graphene Oxide (GO) and Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs), an eco-frendly therapy, with low environmental impact. With this treatment, by using an in vitro model of chronic wound biofilm, the Lubbock Chronic Wound Biofilm (LCBW) model, a reduction of both the number and viability of cells was obtained. The GO and LED combination represents a valid strategy to counteract the wound resistant microorganisms, which make the wound healing difficult.
